TECAR therapy is a form of combined contact diathermy and electrotherapy. It is a medical practice that applies electromagnetic energy to biological tissue. Diathermy is an extremely effective therapeutic technique and when combined with other therapies, it can extend the benefits of treatment
The heat-induced vasodilation increases the exchange of substances resulting in drainage of the inflamed area and an influx of reparative cells. TECAR therapy uses high-frequency currents for the bio-stimulation of tissue with different resistivity.
We can summarise the benefits of diathermy in five main points:
1. Fast-onset analgesic effect - related to bio-stimulation and the endogenous thermal component that reduces the ability to perceive and transmit pain and via its
stimulation of endorphin production.
2. Rapid and medium onset anti-inflammatory effect - bio-stimulation promotes
endogenous healing processes.
3. Bio-stimulating effect - the supply of energy and micro-vascularisation and deep
vascularisation promote both healing processes and the supply of nutrients. They also
promote the drainage of catabolites by normalising cellular biological processes.
4. Myorelaxant effect - the maximum effect is obtained in a moderately hyperthermic
or hyperthermic treatment, which triggers a direct viscosity-reducing effect at the
muscular level. It also promotes deep vascularisation and normalisation of biological
processes.
5. Restores vascularisation - it is mainly related to the endogenous hyperthermic effect. It elevates the blood flow in the treatment areas, increasing the volume of the
available capillary bed, thus favouring the optimisation of endogenous metabolic
processes.
